The Batman Streams…Eventually

For the last year, Warner Bros. has maintained a release strategy consisting of smaller scale theatrical releases along side streaming releases on the HBO Max platform. Speaking on Vox’s Recode podcast, WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar has confirmed that the same applies to the upcoming release of The Batman.

During the interview, Kilar reconfirmed that The Batman will be made available for streaming 46 days after its theatrical release. Meaning that the Pattison helmed reintroduction to the Dark Knight will come to the small screens on April 19, 2022.

“Think about when movies would show up on HBO, which is eight to nine months after theatrical premiere. The Batman is going to show up on day 46 on HBO Max…That is a huge change from where things were in 2018, 2017, 2016.”

Godzilla vs. Kong, Dune and the most recent entry to the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections were release simultaneously in theatres and at home, but the 45-day theatrical exclusive approach will apply to all Warner Bros films to come. According to Kila, this will include Black Adam, The Flash and Elivs.

“That is a very, very big change that I don’t think people appreciate, and I feel really good about it.” Kila said of the upcoming shift in film releases.

The Batman hits theatres on March 4th 2022
