Pandemic Delays Return for DC

DC Comics has informed retailers that several their upcoming publications will be delayed due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on shipping and supply chains.

“DC faces an unprecedented strain on the global supply chain, affecting all of us in the comic industry and beyond” DC’s marketing manager Albert Ching said in a statement released to retailers today.

“Up to this point, we’ve been able to keep delays and shortages to a minimum, but with recent notifications about covid-related port closures, international and domestic freight delays, workforce shortages, and a severely allocated paper supply, we are unable to continue to manage this situation without disruption”

As a result of these impacts, DC has altered the scheduled release dates for 27 upcoming single issues and six collected editions. DC’s spokesperson has confirmed that the company does “expect further shifts in the future. DC will communicate these moves clearly and quickly.”

This move, while understandable in the light of lingering pandemic, is sure to set retailers and comic fans alike on edge. Last year, the comics industry all but ground to a halt as the pandemic shuttered production and distribution.
