Fan-Favorite writer Donny Cates will reunite with his Thanos creative partner Geoff Shaw to relaunch Guardians of the Galaxy in 2019.
The relaunch was announced in an advanced press copy of Thanos Legacy #1, which is due out this Wednesday.
The two page spread highlights over thirty five characters from Marvel’s pantheon of cosmic heroes, including: the Original 1969 Guardians lineup, the current team, Adam Warlock, The Shi’ar Imperial Guard, a member of the Nova corps, Super Skrull, Silver Surfer, Galactus Howard the Duck, Beta Ray Bill, Eros, The StarJammers as well as the Cosmic-Ghost Rider and a slew of others.
Curiously absent from the spread are the members of Cullen Bunn’s ‘Asgardians of the Galaxy‘ however, the image does allude to several potential spoilers from the currently running Infinity Wars event.
The Guardians have been a hot topic as of late. With the dramatic ousting of James Gunn, the abandonment of his script and the recently announced ‘indefinite delay’ of Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, this may prove to be the best opportunity to revamp the book’s lineup and prepare the audience for Groot, Rocket, Gamora, Star-Lord and Drax to make their final MCU curtain call sometime during or after the events of Avengers 4.
No matter what, we will have to wait until January to learn #WhoAreTheGuardians
